Zebra

Rainbow ZebraHere is a painting I think you will like
It’s a beautiful animal, with black paint and white
Of all the skin patterns that are found out in nature,
It’s the stripes of the zebra that keep them from danger
There’s protection from predators that strike at their prey
Because all of the stripes just get in the way
They chase after one, but all they see are the others,
Stripes from the sisters and stripes from the brothers
I came to the conclusion, that gave me a smile,
I would paint this one zebra with the colors of a child
So now here you have it, the one that got away
It jumped on my canvas, and there it will stay
It’s the rainbow zebra, a site for sore eyes,
If you like the expression, don’t tell me no lies!

The Red Guitar

The Red GuitarFor all you musical people out there that love the sound of the guitar and harmonica together, here is a wonderful piece to check out. This mixed media oil painting describes a lot about my life. The brush & palette is my occupation, and the harmonica is the choice of instrument I play. I used to go out and play back up for a number of bands, but now I just play with family and friends. I also used to play guitar and write songs in my early 20′s. The words in the painting are from the song of Solomon which is the greatest love song ever written. The wine is a symbol of celebration while the glass appears to move back and forth right before your very eyes. As you focus on the work you will also notice the table fans out into space in front of the doorway to another room. This is a one of a kind cubist painting reflecting the joys of life. If you like it you can purchase it directly from the artist and there are no prints available.

The Circus Dog

The Circus DogThe other day I decided to take Paloma, my little hound dog to the city market to meet some of the people who work there. She was dressed up in a cute hot pink shirt with a tie dye peace sign on it. She was a doll. Everyone stopped to say hello and take pictures. When I entered an art gallery in the market place I had the hound dog in a stroller so she would stay put. Just then, to my surprise, I noticed a little black Pomeranian dancing and kissing Paloma while she was sitting there. She loved all the attention but it appeared that the little circus dog was stealing the show. I asked the dog’s owner for the name, and she said his name was Frodo. Everyone was truly amazed at how long this little guy could hop around on it’s hind legs while smiling and sticking out it’s tongue. The owner gave me some photos of her dog and wanted a painting done. She said it was a lost and found dog. So here it is, Frodo the circus dog without all the bells and whistles, just a little splash blue paint to capture some of the energy!

The Great Dane

The Great DaneIt has been a great great week for me in spite of all the tornado ripping through the USA. I pray that something good will come out of it all. I have been requested by more than one person to paint a Great Dane with floppy ears. You see, I have one painted but the ears were cropped off by a tornado awhile back. It look great, but for those whose ears are down I must show some respect. This is a warm colored animal with a cool colored snout on a cool colored background. This combination of complimentary colors really makes the animal vibrate with life! I love the wrinkles on the face & ears. I just want to hug & pet the big dog. I think this is an absolutely Great Great Dane that would look good in anyone’s home who loves dogs. PS this is a low maintenance pet & is easy to take care of. Just hang it on your wall. It may be a big dog but the love you get is always Great!!!

The Lounge Lizard

Lounge LizardHere is another little story with a moral to it, for those of you out there who like to learn from your experiences. One afternoon I was enjoying myself, reflecting on the good things in life. I was enjoying a cold one at the local watering hole when I noticed a woman with the attire of a lounge lizard entering through the door. She was looking for the right place to sit so she could make her move. Suddenly she saw a couple of bar flies near the food and drinks. As she walked by she smiled and sat down next to the guys who were regulars at the bar. Immediately she started swinging her tail and licking her lips. Because she looked so beautiful, they were compelled to buy her some drinks. So she ordered the most expensive ones on the menu along with bloody marys with extra veggies on the side. After a few outrageous drinks these guys realized their money was gone and so was the lounge lizard. The bar flies soon disappeared and the lounge lizard slithered away. The moral is beware of lounge lizards if you are a bar fly!

Chairman of the Board

Chairman of the BoardThis is a new commission piece just completed in thick juicy oil paints. The owners found this little stray wandering down the lonely path of life. He was calling out with many meows of desperation seeking refuge from the coming storm. When they noticed the little guy, they immediately looked into his eyes and decided to take him home. As soon as they arrived at the house the cat took his place among the other animals, and they elected him chairman of the board. The owners were amazed & wanted to have their precious new member painted in all his glory! I am thrilled at how the colors & brushwork vibrate with energy. If you would like your animal friend painted then send me an email of your little angel.

Stevie Ray Vaughan

Stevie Ray VaughanThis is a commission piece I just finished for a music lover in Jacksonville, Fla. It is 24″x 36″ & painted in oils. If you are a blues lover then you will appreciate the energy expressed in this man’s face. Stevie Ray really reached out, grabbed the sounds from the other side, and brought them to us to enjoy! His mentor he truly emulated was Jimi Hendrix, the one who had the monster guitar. It all goes down in the history of our times!

The Big Show

The Big ShowDo you want to here another crazy story that happened to me? Well, just the other day I woke up from the strangest dream. I was in this large beautiful white house in the country surrounded by lots of trees, a misty sky, and birds singing everywhere. While in my dream I was at the easel by the window, obsessed with the colors on the latest animal painting I was working on. I felt this strange breeze when out of the blue this long snake like creature came through the window and grabbed my brush. Looking out, I noticed a giant elephant swinging my brush left and right, up and down. So I called out and asked, who do you think you are, the big show or something. When I saw the paint smeared all over the animal, I realized, this is the big show. Immediately I woke up and ran to the studio to paint this beautiful beast! I hope you like it. It is drying in the studio and is now available. Comment if you can and let me know what you think.

Little Brown Cow

Little Brown CowAs I traveled to town and back this week to restock the art at the gallery, I noticed lots of brown cows grazing in a sunny field. They seem so content & happy eating grass and drinking water from a pond. I thought how simple their lives were. Suddenly I was drawn to this one little brown cow who just kept looking at me. I realized that this one was mooooody! It was a musical cow that needed to be painted! When I finally got home to the studio, I used my camera phone to capture the mood of this wonderful creature. If you look close you will see music and other bits of information inside its body. I love the simplicity and warm, color tones of this moooooving piece. If you like cows and other wild animals then let me know. I am planning to paint more of God’s beautiful creatures in the near future. Keep in touch and watch!
